Safe Summer Fun Day June 15
NORWICH – Soon summer will truly begin for the majority of school students, as the end of the academic year draws towards its final days.
The Chenango County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, along with The Place, will be presenting a Safe Summer Fun Day, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 15 at the Kurt Beyer Park in Norwich.
“The goal is not just an event with an emphasis on safety, but something people will be able to enjoy with their families,” said organizer Zach Keller.
The Norwich Police Department will be on hand to inspect and register any bikes, along with other safety equipment. There will also be a bike rodeo, obstacle safety course and a raffle for a free mountain bike.
The organizations will also be offering free music, hot dogs, ice cream and popcorn. Local businesses have donated door prizes and gifts to be given out at the event.
The Norwich Fire Department will be sponsoring a fire safety puppet show. Many other venders and non-profit organizations will also be in attendance.
“There will be at least over 300 people coming by the time we are finished,” said organizer Mark Parsons.
Safe Summer Fun Day is designed to give students healthy and safe alternatives during their summer months of freedom from school. There will be information on a number of other summer activities for students to get involved in at the event.
