Otselic girl dies after being hit by truck

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies are reporting that 12-year-old Shyanne A. Somers of South Otselic was killed around midnight Saturday after being struck by a pick-up truck on County Rt. 26.
George Ford Jr., 42, of Piscataway, N.J., has been charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, in the death of Miss Somers. Sheriff’s reports say the girl had been babysitting for Ford at his seasonal residence, and Ford had stopped while taking the girl home to check on his horses on Will Warner Road. According to police reports, Somers exited the vehicle, and Ford struck her while turning the truck around in a reckless manner.
Miss Somers died of severe head trauma and massive internal injuries. Ford is being held at the Chenango County Correctional facility.
