Free summer concert series starts tonight

NORWICH – The Chenango Blues Association’s free Summer Concert Series begins tonight in the West Side Park with a performance by New Orleans favorite, “Papa Grows Funk.”
The show begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. The first 100 in attendance will receive a free hot dog courtesy of the Norwich Elks Lodge.
A nationally acclaimed act, critics describe “Papa Grows Funk” as a “primal mix of New Orleans R&B, jazz and blues.” The band is quickly being recognized as one of the up-and-coming acts in the New Orleans music scene. “These guys are a lot of fun,” said Blues Association member Eric Larsen.
The first four shows of the summer series will run from 7 to 9 p.m. on four consecutive Thursdays starting tonight. The fifth and final show will be Tuesday, Aug. 7, in the entertainment tent at the Chenango County Fair as part of free fair admission night.
The four other upcoming bands in the series will be representing Brazilian roots music, Louisiana Zydeco, Texas Polka and country influenced rock and roll.
The concerts will kick-off the Chenango Blues Festival Aug. 17 & 18 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.
