Weekend accident

Yesterday afternoon at around 12:15 p.m. a New Berlin woman suddenly lost control of her car while attempting to avoid striking a deer.
Tina L. Smith, 24, Hawks Rd., New Berlin suffered minor injuries to her back and was transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital via ambulance, she was later released.
Smith was traveling eastbound in a Green SUV on Rt. 23 near the municipal reservoir when suddenly a deer appeared on the roadway. Smith swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision with the deer but struck the animal and then careened into a grove of trees over 20 feet from the road way, said the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. The animal was killed at the scene.
