EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report will provide updates every Monday on major construction projects in Chenango County.
AIM Fitness:
• The new 18,000 square foot fitness and day care center is projected to open next month in the North Plaza mall north of the city of Norwich.
• The facility will offer spinning, aerobic, yoga and other exercise classes in addition to Life Fitness and Hammerstrength weight machines and equipment.
• Customers may take advantage of day care services while working out.
• The Long Island-based owner said he anticipates needing up to 25 employees.
Curves:
• Curves for Women relocated from the North Plaza mall to a new location at 21 South Broad St. last week. According to Manager Melissa Lapadula, the main reason for the move was to be closer to down town.
• The fitness center is open Monday and Wednesday from 5:50 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from noon to 7 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday from 5:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A monthly membership costs $29.
Dunkin’ Doughnuts:
• Commitment to the project has been made and designs are being submitted to build a 1,930 square feet Dunkin’ Doughnuts franchise just south of the city in the town of Norwich on state Rt. 12.
• The building will contain a drive-thru, 21 seats and 36 feet of shelving and is the newest design for Dunkin’ Doughnuts restaurants.
• Construction could begin in September. It is scheduled to open 120 days after construction begins.
Halfway House Bridge (County Route 32B):
• Construction of a new bridge is expected to get underway Aug. 1, with completion anticipated for next summer.
• The fishing access point adjacent to the bridge will be out of service for the duration of the project.
Housing Starts (modular, double wide and stick built):
• Chenango County Codes Enforcement reported 11 new housing starts in Chenango County.
• There were three in the town of Coventry; two in the town of Plymouth; and one each in the towns of Smyrna, Smithville, Guilford, Columbus, Bainbridge and Afton.
Village of Bainbridge bridge and infrastructure project:
• Town Supervisor Rick E. Chase reported that decking and rebar was installed and concrete was poured on the state Route 206 bridge last week. Railings should be delivered and put up next month.
• The target date for finishing the bridge work, which was begun in 2006, is late August or early September. Construction of a one-lane round-a-bout will follow.
•The 530 foot bridge spans the Susquehanna River. Work was delayed by the floods last year.
• The round-a-bout will provide access to an industrial park planned for 2010.
