Norwich man leads police on wild car chase through Broome County

BROOME COUNTY - A Norwich man led Broome County police on a high-speed car chase through Vestal that ended up with the suspect ditching his vehicle and fleeing on foot.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Jeremy S. Hale, 20, Wales Drive, Norwich, after he led them on a high speed chase along several routes and off the highway in his blue four-door sedan.
Hale faces several charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful fleeing of a police dog, unlawful possession of marijuana and reckless driving.
Police attempted to pull the vehicle over for “acting suspiciously,” but did not release a specific reason for the stop, which took place at 4:10 a.m., Thursday.
Johnson City Police also participated in the chase and while in the city, Hale’s passenger, Ramale Mortise, leapt from the car while it slowed to make a turn.
During the pursuit, Hale allegedly ignored several vehicle and traffic laws, disregarded traffic devices and reached speeds of 85 miles per hour. In order to stop the vehicle police were forced to lay tire spikes across the road in the Town of Union. After bringing his car to a stop, Hale then attempted to flee on foot, but was captured by police.
Hale was remanded to the Broome County Jail and more charges may be pending.
