LDC makes plans for surplus property
NORWICH – After a public hearing was held on Tuesday night to determine the use of surplus properties at 80 Sheldon Street and 96 Silver Street, the Common Council of the City of Norwich passed resolutions to transfer one property to the Greater Norwich Local Development Corporation and to put the other up for auction.
The property located at 80 Sheldon Street will be transferred to the LDC. According to City of Norwich Director of Finance and City Clerk William Roberts, 80 Sheldon Street is a sub-standard parcel of land. “It’s a land locked parcel, with no access to any city street. It borders a neighboring property,” Roberts explained.
When asked what the LDC planned to do with this parcel, Roberts explained the role they will play. “The LDC can convey the parcel directly to the adjoining property owner for little more than the legal costs,” Roberts said. He explained that the city has gone through the same process a number of times, and by doing so has gotten rid of most sub-standard land parcels.
