Oxford man held on a million dollars bail over child rape
OXFORD – Police have arrested an Oxford man for allegedly raping a young child.
The New York State Trooper arrested Richard M. Hathaway, 47, Oxford for first degree rape and first degree criminal sexual act, both class B violent felonies, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The victim is a child under the age of 11 and was forced into repeated sexual encounters over a period of time.
Hathaway was arraigned in the Town of Oxford court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of million dollars cash bail. Hathaway is scheduled to re-appear in Oxford Town Court at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20.
If convicted, Hathaway could spend the rest of his life in prison or civilly confined and be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
