GREENE – Greene organized its passing and was more dominant on the offensive end in the second half scoring all of its goals in a shutout of Walton Wednesday.
April Small, Jessie Bates, and Megan McDermott all had tallies for the Trojans. Liz Wentlent made four saves for the shutout.
“We moved the ball better and had more finesse with our passing in the second half,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “We put the ball ahead to our faster girls, and got good things out of it.”
Greene plays McGraw Friday in the Sherburne-Earlville Tournament.

NORWICH – Norwich won its opening STAC division game for the first time in several years spreading out its scoring in a romp over Johnson City Wednesday.
Hannah Killean had the lone goal of the first half for the Tornado, and Sarah Bonnell, Celina Furman, and Hannah Runyon added goals before the Wildcats added a meaningless goal in mop-up time.
“Our defense was steady and controlled three-quarters of the game,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “It was a good game for us and I hope it boosts our confidence.”
Norwich plays Friday at Owego at 11 a.m.

Field Hockey

Maine-Endwell 4, Oxford 1
ENDWELL– A five-minute stretch at the end of the first half vaulted Maine-Endwell past Oxford Wednesday in both teams’ opening game of the season.
Taylor Stein had the go-ahead goal and two of the three tallies that put the defending Section IV champions in front.
Oxford took the early lead off a Christi Baker goal. “I saw a lot of good things in this game,” said Oxford coach Melissa Chrystie. “Their goalie was pretty good, and we couldn’t get our sticks on second chances.”
Oxford outshot the Spartans, 18-16, in the loss. The Blackhawks host Greene Friday at 2 p.m.

NORWICH – Seton Catholic Central won all three tie-breakers and went on to sweep the Purple Tornado Wednesday afternoon.
“It doesn’t look good in the final score, but it was competitive in many of the matches,” said Norwich coach John Stewart.
Norwich plays Chenango Forks today.

CONKLIN – Norwich has wins at home and on the road to start the season beating Sus Valley Wednesday at Conklin Players Club.
Freshman Jacob Kelly birdied the par-five ninth hole to shoot a 39 and earn medalist honors. Ryan Cambron added a steady 43 for the Tornado linksters (2-0).
