Police arrest suspect in drug store break-in
NEW BERLIN – Police have apprehended a suspect in a drug store burglary that took place earlier this week which resulted in several prescription drugs being stolen.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of New Berlin Police Department completed their investigation into a forcible burglary at the Service Pharmacy Drug Store in the Village of New Berlin, with the arrest of Nicholas P. Pacio.
Pacio, 32, 59 Henry Street, Norwich, was arrested for third degree burglary and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
“Wednesday night, the night of Sept. 5, at approximately 3:50 a.m., the suspect (Pacio) allegedly entered the Service Pharmacy Drug store by smashing a side door window with a hatchet and then stole a large quantity of prescription medications from inside the building,” said Sheriff’s Lieutenant James E. Lloyd.
Police said nearly all of the medications taken were controlled substances and were valued at around $1,300. Deputies recovered the stolen medication from Pacio following his arrest.
Pacio was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $25,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in The Town of New Berlin Court, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
