OXFORD – Marathon did not need overtime as it did last year in capturing the Blackhawks’ tournament title Saturday evening.
Kaitlyn Bliss and Marta Malmberg had a pair of goals, and Tessa Knapp added a tally giving her four over the two-day tournament to pace the Olympians over the host club.
Marathon picked up the offense with four second-half goals.
Christi Baker and Erin Law scored unassisted for Oxford, who dropped to 2-3 on the season.
Greene, coming off a tight loss to Marathon the previous evening (3-2), routed Whitesboro as Holly Davis scored three goals and Andrea Day finished with her second two-goal game of the tournament.
Oxford advanced to the final with a 4-1 victory over Whitesboro.

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville was better in defeat to lose the title game than it was in defeating Moravia the night before to reach the S-E tourney finals, said head coach Sheila Cooman.
“We did not play very well against Moravia Friday and they beat us in every tally except goals scored,” Cooman said. “Even though we lost to V-V-S again, we played much, much better. We moved the ball and worked together better. It’s ironic the stats don’t show that.”
V-V-S’s two goals came two minutes apart in the opening half. Mary Schilling had the opening goal and Mallory Mariano added insurance.
Samantha Crandall and Courtney Kurtz scored for S-E in its victory over Moravia.

DERUYTER – Tully scored five second-half goals to take charge and defeat OV Friday afternoon at the DeRuyter tournament.
The Vikings posted a victory in the consolation game Saturday getting two goals from Landon Rasmussen.

HAMILTON – Morrisville-Eaton had the game’s lone goal tallying with 10 minutes remaining to win the Hamilton Optimist Tournament Saturday against S-E.
“It was well-played for most part and up and down,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “We had problems doing anyting inside the 18. We were looking for the extra touch and not generating shots. We couldn’t get our crosses into the box as much as I we wanted to.”

NEW BERLIN - Amanda Peek scored a second-half goal for the Storm getting an assist from Sakura Gysin just 2:46 into play and that tally held up for a New York Pizzeria Tournament title.
Emily Sugar made three saves for the shutout, and UV defender Hannah Johnson was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
The Storm advanced to the finals after beating G-MU 4-1 on Friday evening. From that win, the Storm suffered injuries and were a little shorthanded for the final, said head coach Chris Bieniek. “Everyone stepped up and did a great job,” the UV coach said. “All of our defenders played well, and Emily Sugar made some great saves. It was a great way to end the tournament.”
In the consolation game, the Bobcats' Liz Holbert scored in overtime giving her club a one-goal win over the Raiders.
Kelly McCarthy tallied for the Raiders in the first half, and Mariah Schaeffer was credited with B-G's first-half goals.

OXFORD – Charlotte Valley jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and went on to win a non-league matchup with Oxford Saturday.
Chelsea Haight had a hat trick for Charlotte Valley to lead the way and scored the opening goal. Amanda Toombes made it 2-0 heading in a cornerkick.
Felicia Tynan tallied in the second half for Oxford.

ENDWELL – The toughest division tests are out of the way for Norwich, who finished Friday’s meet at Maine-Endwell with victories in the final three events.
Rachel Lorenz picked up her second individual win of the night taking the 100 backstroke, Makenzie Williams followed with a victory in the 100 breastroke, and the Tornado quartet of Lorenz, Julia Simcoe, Williams, and Savanna Keator grabbed the 400 free relay. “It was another tough meet for us, and we’ve faced the top two sectional finishers right off the bat,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “I have seen a lot of improvement in many of our younger swimmers (Simcoe, Kerstin Franklin, and Alison Brown), and we’re right where we need to be at this point of the season. We will see results in the future as we approach sectionals and states.”

NORWICH – Norwich made it three straight victories and improved to 4-2 on the season with a victory over Johnson City Friday.
Larysa Bernstein, Jenny Zieno and Sophie Stewart grabbed wins, and for Bernstein it was a decisive third-set tiebreaker that pushed her past Amelia Stymaks at second singles.
Norwich won all three doubles matchups in straight sets giving up no more than two games in any one set.

CHENANGO FORKS – Norwich earned its first STAC win this season – matching its lone win of 2006 – topping Chenango Forks in four games,23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13.
Michelle Testani had a team-high 16 kills, and Megan Garofalo was the prime setter for Testani charting 14 assists. Amber Dean added 10 assists and a team-high four aces. “We really bounced back well after making a lot of mistakes against Johnson City,” said Norwich coach Paul Sims. “We played all-around good volleyball tonight. We were focused right from warm-ups and it was the best I have seen up play in my four years coaching at Norwich.”
Norwich (1-3) is at Oneonta Thursday.

Spittler wins at Oneonta Invitational
ONEONTA – Norwich did not field a top-six team, but had the top overall runner at the 2.5-mile Oneonta Invitational Saturday.
Tornado junior Steven Spittler was the overall winner timing a 14:08 to outpace Oneonta's Nick Madison by 17 points. Teams from Union-Endicott, Maine-Endwell, Delhi, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Whitney Point, and the host school also competed.
