Tryon wins ES football contest

Ralph Tryon of Norwich, a previous winner in The Evening Sun Football Contest, edged past Oxford’s Beverly Chrystie in a tiebreaker to claim the $25 first prize in the first week of the season.
Tryon and Chrystie were the frontrunners among our 93 entries finishing with 16-of-20 correct picks. Tryon correctly forecasted a Coast Guard victory over Merchant Marine, while Chrystie had Merchant Marine taking the victory.
Ten more prognosticators had 15 correct and 17 finished with a 14-for-20 week. Among our 20 games, Harpursville’s victory over the Blackhawks was the toughest to call with only three siding with the Hornets.
This week’s contest, the second in a 10-week series, appears today on page 14.
