OXFORD – After dropping its first two games this season, Oxford won for the fourth time in five games, and moved over the .500 mark for the first time.
Vanessa Pierson had first-half goals at 16:46 and 11:21 to give her a team-high six tallies on the season. Chantel Crandall added an insurance goal for the Blackhawks in the second half.
“We finally jelled as a team,” said Oxford coach Missy Chrystie. “The things we’ve been working on in practice paid off in a game situation.”
Oxford (4-3) plays Sidney Saturday at 11 a.m.

SHERBURNE – The Marauders continued their improved play with a decisive win over league rival New York Mills Thursday.
Samantha Crandall tallied to open the scoring with 11 minutes left in the first half, and Courtney Kurtz added two goals in the last five minutes of the half to create a three-goal advantage. “Everything (the offense) came from the midfield today,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “That is what we’ve been working on. We made good decisions with the ball and good decisions everywhere. This was our best game so far.”
Karli Harris scored in the second half for the Marauders (1-1, 3-2), who play Canastota Monday.

NORWICH – A strong second half for Norwich was not enough to offset a two-goal halftime deficit in Thursday’s loss to Windsor.
Jeaghlan Morrissey and Airyell Kennirup had goals for the Black Knights, who were outshot by the Purple Tornado. “We were not ready to play in the first half,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “We settled down and dominated the second half, but could not get a goal.”

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley stopped a recent losing skein getting a late goal from Jimmy Jachim to secure its second win of the season.
Afton, looking for its first MAC division win, pulled to within 3-2 after Corey Westfall’s goal with 15 minutes remaining in the contest. Jachim provided a two-goal cushion for UV with under five minutes to play.
“Afton played with a lot of desire and emotion,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We were a little flat, and we probably should have finished a few more times.”
Fred Hutchinson had two goals for the Storm (2-3), who play at Unatego Monday.

OXFORD – In what might be a preview to the Oxford Tournament finals later this month, Greene blanked the Blackhawks Thursday.
Ryan Utter had a pair of first-half goals for the Trojans, and John Flanagan made nine saves for the shutout. “They outplayed us in the first half, and when we got our act together in the second half, we just couldn’t find the net,” said Oxford coach Tim Pade. “It’s a tough loss, but I hope to see them in the finals of our tournament.”

LAURENS – Aftter 30 minutes of scoreless play, G-MU’s defense cracked giving up a goal to Laurens’ Miguel Short, and the Leopards went on to blank the Raiders Thursday.
Greg Conklin added a goal later in the first half for Laurens, who actually played better in the second half, said G-MU coach Mark Luettger. “I thought we played pretty well in the first half, but it was kind of a bummer to be down two goals even though we did play well,” Luettger said.
G-MU (1-3, 2-3) plays at Worcester Monday.

 OXFORD – Delhi handed Oxford its first loss in four matches this season Wednesday at Oxford.
The Blackhawks picked up wins at second singles (Shelby Myers), and third singles (Myranda Batsford).
Delhi controlled the two doubles matchups to secure its win. Megan Hall and Amber Recinella won at first doubles in three sets, and at second doubles, a first-set tiebreaker went the Bulldogs’ way en route to a straight sets win.

AFTON – Harpursville improved to 6-1 on the season beating B-G (2-5) at Afton Golf Club Thursday.
Bobcats senior, Jesse Abildness, led his club shooting a 3-over-par 39 over the back nine.

WINDSOR – Afton/B-G/Oxford finished with wins in the final four events in a loss to Windsor Wednesday.
Hannah Westfall had three wins overall to lead the Crimson Knights, who had seven swimmers out of the lineup, said coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “We’re undermanned at this point due to injuries and sickness,” he said. “By the end of next week we should be almost back to full strength.”
