Some close races in Tuesday’s Repubican Party primaries
NORWICH – Though absentee ballots have yet to be counted, Board of Elections Republican Commissioner Harriet Jenkins Tuesday evening released the unofficial results of yesterday’s Republican Party primaries.
In Columbus, incumbent Highway Superintendent Ricky E. Davis lost to Kevin D. Cross by votes of 24 to 51. Richard M. Fornito Sr. earned 47 votes for town justice versus his opponent, Michael C. Simons, who had 34.
In Coventry, where the only race was for highway superintendent, Keith E. Ives narrowly retained his top job in the department by 76 votes to challenger Larry A. Hatton’s 52 votes.
In Greene, veteran Town Clerk Deborah L. Thomas won another four-year term. Challenger Carla D. Brown earned 194 votes versus Thomas’ 351. The two will face off again in November’s general election, with Brown running on the Square Deal ticket and Thomas running on the Republican and Open Door tickets.
