Gutsy win for Marauders
Field Hockey
S-E 5, Sauquoit Valley 3
SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville did all of its scoring in the final 10 minutes of each half rallying twice to overcome a stiff challenge from Sauquoit Valley Wednesday.
“They were fast and skilled...they surprised us tonight,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman of the Indians.
Down two goals, S-E senior Danielle Green started the first-half rally at 9:15 scoring on a direct hit off a penalty corner from Betsy Lewis. Green forced a halftime tie with two minutes remaining in the half, again in extended action after a penalty corner.
SV posted the first goal of the second half, and took that lead into the 10-minute mark when, Karli Harris had the first of her two goals to tie the game for S-E. Harris moved the Marauders ahead for the first time at 1:07 getting a pass from Green, and Samantha Crandall added an insurance goal just before time expired. “We really showed what we were made of to come back like that. It was a gutsy performance,” Cooman said. “It was a big win because it was a league win. We already have one league loss, so we can’t afford to lose another.”
