Crusaders split contests
NORWICH – Valley Heights Christian Academy’s Crusaders hosted the Cortland Cortland Christian Academy Saints at Weiler Park last Friday night. The Lady Crusaders built a 4-0 lead and held on for 4-3 win. In the boys’ nightcap, the Saints won 3-2.
The girls’ game had just two goals scored in the first half one by Hannah Vidler at 28:56 assisted by Becky Lawton, and Lawton at 8:29, assisted by Vidler.
Vidler started the second-half scoring by netting a penalty kick at 29:30. Sara Miedema scored the Last Crusaders goal at 24:16 assisted by Vidler that was enough for the win.
Danielle Kinney would then score a hat trick for the Saints with goals at 16:01, 6:32 and 3:36.
The Saints scored first in the boys’ game on a goal by Darren Miller at 19:22. Luke Halberg got the Crusaders on the board netting a rebound of a indirect kick at 2:38. Miller would score again with only 48 second left in the first period.
C. J. Burnett extended the Saints lead scoring at 17:01 and Halberg moved the Crusaders within one scoring at 14:02.
