Oxford man pleads guilty in rape case

OXFORD – An Oxford man held on $1 million bail over charges involving the rape of a young girl under the age of 11 pleaded guilty to some of the charges in court Friday.
Richard M. Hathaway, 47, Oxford, was originally charged with first degree rape and first degree criminal sexual act, both class B violent felonies, as well as endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
Hathaway pleaded guilty to the criminal sexual act.
“I had oral sex with her,. I wasn’t violent, but I coerced her,” said Hathaway in court.
Public Defender Alan Gordon said it was his understanding that Hathaway would receive between 7 to 10 years in state prison but that it was ultimately up to the judge.
Judge W. Howard Sullivan remanded Hathaway to jail pending his sentence at a later date.
New York State Troopers said the victim was forced into repeated sexual encounters over a period of time.
