Cyclones win three of four games at home against Utica

NORWICH – In a battle of two undefeated teams, the Cyclones’ “C” team extended its perfect record beating Utica ,12-7.
Tristan Rifanburg hit Michael Oralls on a beautiful 55-yard pass play for a touchdown in the second quarter. A 37-yard pass play to Oralls from Rifanburg set up a three-yard TD run from Rifanburg for the winning TD. Oralls and Rifanburg ran for good yardage on the day.
Everett Thompson had a key rumble recovery at the Norwich five yard line in the third quarter to stop a Bulldogs drive. Spencer Stone and Matt Craig had key fumble recoveries also. Alex Weaver had a TD-saving tackle, and Landon Cummings had many big defensive stops as well. Storm Cook, Oralls, and Rifanburg came up with big defensive plays to aid the cause.
The Cyclones’ “B” team held the Bulldogs’ speed in the check for a convincing 34-13 win.
Michael Sutton had four TDs and 174 yards rushing to lead the Cyclones. Sutton opened the scoring on a 19-yard touchdown in the game’s first two minutes. Jordan Lockwood scored a TD on a 17-yard reverse and added to the score with a point after touchdown pass from Sutton. Sutton had additional TD runs of 13, 51 and 50 yards.
Robbie Wheeler ran extremely well with several big gainers and a PAT run, while Jaden MacRabie kicked a long, 32-yard PAT after a Cyclones penalty.
On defense, Frank Garcia, Devean Crandall, Graydon Murphy, Lockwood, MacRabie, and Sutton controlled the Bulldogs offense.
In the Cyclones’ “A” Tteam game, Paul Wonka took the opening kickoff back for a thrilling 65-yard TD run setting the stage for a 32-6 romp.
Dennis Oralls hit Dallas Moryl on an eight-yard TD pass in the first, and connected with Nate Ashton on a gem for a 25-yard TD pass in the second. Kyle Edwards added a three-yard touchdown run in the 3rd stanza. Tanner Cummings and Edwards added safeties to the Cyclones scoreboard, while Ashton kicked two PATs.
On defense, Brandon Miles had a fumble recovery, Grady Thompson a big sack and fumble recovery, and Ashton had an interception and a 52-yard punt. Cody Bradbury and Grant Brightman played big defense also.
The Cyclones’ “D” tTeam took on a speedy Utica Bulldogs team and fell 27-13 in an exciting opening game.
The Cyclones travel to Oneida on Saturday, Sept. 29 for a series of key games.
Game times are the D team at 1:30 p.m., C team at 3:30 p.m., B team at 5:30 p.m., and A team at 7:30 p.m.
