Beckwith wins football contest

In a week littered with upsets on the college ranks and NFL games that confounded most of our prognosticators, Charles Beckwith of Oxford emerged from a tiebreaker to win the $25 Evening Sun Football Contest weekly prize.
Beckwith and Sherburne’s Arlo Truax Sr., came away with 14-of-20 correct picks. Neither gentleman had Bucknell winning; however, Beckwith’s 41 total points in the tiebreaker game to Truax’s 30 proved closer to the 45-point total.
Rich Johnson, Betty Conant, and Janice Marango of Norwich had 13 right, as did Mike Klockowski of Guilford and Scott Schuman of Earlville. Last week’s winner, Morgan Conant of Norwich, finished with 11 right.
A total of 93 entries were received, and not one picked Fordham over Colgate making it the toughest game to call in any week this season.
Today’s contest appears on page 14.
