Pair of shutout wins for Valley Heights
NORWICH – On a rainy night in Norwich last weekend, Valley Heights Christian Academy’s Crusaders came away with a pair of soccer victories.
Playing Baldwinsville Christian Academy Crusaders, The rainbow must have ended at the Valley Heights bench as the girls won 13-0 and the boys took their contest 4-0.
The girls game, played mostly in the rain, saw VHCA score five first-period goals two by Hannah Vidler at 26:15 and 19:24, and one each by Monica Ingraham, Sara Miedema, and Erica Carr. Eight second-half goals were scored by Carr at 25:55, Shelby Richards at 24:59, Amanda Evans at 22:44, Jessie Ray at 21:20, Ingraham at 19:10, Miedema at 10:11, Becky Lawton at 4:20 and Hannah Miles closing out the scoring at 2:03.
The boys game was a much different as the rain had stopped and so did the scoring playing a scoreless opening half.
Luke Halberg started the scoring for VHCA when he picked up a punt by goalie Roger Rose past midfield, and took it in for the score at 25:10. Halberg would score again at 14:54 assisted by Andrew Hunt. At 12:56 Ryan Rose put in a shot over the defensive wall in the top right corner out of the goalie’s reach. Halberg would close out the scoring at 6:29 on a play much like the first goal when Rose punted the ball down the field and he took it in.
The VHCA schedule this week includes games at Cortland Thursday, Oct. 4 with the girls play at 3:30 p.m. and boys at 5 p.m.; Friday, Oct. 5 at home against Port City Royals with the girls game at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 6 at Penn Yan. The girls play at 11:30 a.m. and boys at 10 pm.
