OXFORD – Sarah Hutchinson headed in a crossing pass from Jessica Lorence at the 23-minute mark to break a 1-1 tie and key UV’s win at Oxford Tuesday.
The Blackhawks, looking for the upset, tied the game when Ashlee Farwell put away a pass from Felicia Tynan at 19 minutes.
UV added insurance when Catherine Thomas scored in the second half. “UV did a nice job going to the ball and seemed to win most of the 50-50 balls,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “We’re not taking enough shots. We had opportunities, but were holding the ball too long.”

“It was one of those old-fashioned whippings,” Smith said. “They were good all over the field and we had nothing today. Unadilla Valley was good, but Sidney is the best team we’ve played this year.”
Danielle Martindale scored the first goal, and sophomore Danielle Gravel had back-to-back goals 50 seconds apart in the final seven minutes of the first half on her way to a hat trick.

“We played great tonight,” said Trojans coach Sue Carlin. “We moved the ball well and covered the gaps. Everyone came up big all over the field.”
Holly Davis and Erin Smith exchanged goals and assists – Davis scoring the first off a Smith pass, and then returning the favor for Smith to make it 2-0. Andrea Day tipped in a long Smith pass at 15:51 for the three-goal halftime lead.
Marley Hayes scored her first career varsity goal in the second half, one of four tallies for the Trojans.
The Trojans look to avenge a 3-2 loss to Whitney Point Thursday at home.

Brad Kazinski scored just 19 seconds into the game, and the Spartans jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead.
The contest was played on Norwich’s new turf field, a surface that buoyed M-E’s skills. “It’s a quick surface, and it makes a team like Maine-Endwell play even quicker,” said Norwich coach John McCumiskey.
Norwich hosts Johnson City Friday at 7 p.m.

It was the third league win for Norwich this season, and the first STAC win at home in several years, said Tornado coach Paul Sims. “The last time we played (Whitney Point), we were a little shaky the last two games,” Sims said. “Our goal tonight was to not let the pace of the game determine how we play. When we had the opportunity, we set it up and put it way. It feels good to be on this side of a convincing match.”
Sarah Fleming had seven kills and six aces for Norwich, Michelle Testani led with eight kills, and Megan Garofalo picked up 16 assists.
Norwich (3-9) plays at Maine-Endwell Thursday.
