Coffee Connection opens anew in downtown
NORWICH – The downtown Broad Street strip in Norwich saw the return of one of its cultural venues yesterday as the Coffee Connection reopened in its new location after over a month of renovations.
The Cafe is just a door down from its old location at 30 S. Broad St.
“The Connection aspires to blend cultural cuisines in both the traditional sense while exploring new, innovative styles and techniques. The menu reflects familiar and delicious food yet is inspired by the cuisine of Spain, Europe and the Mediterranean,” said owner Geri Barnes.
The cafe has seized the opportunity and included several locally produced foods in their recipes. Some of the local ingredients used include vegetables, honey, grains, herbs and dairy.
The Cafe Connection is in the process of acquiring its liquor license so it can open a new wine bar. The cafe already serves a range of tapas that will complement its future wine selection. Tapas is a traditional Spanish bite-sized dish casually eaten between larger meals. It is commonly served with wine.
Barnes is originally from Boston, but spent 20 years in San Diego. She was a foster and adoptive parent trainer. She co-founded the North San Diego County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association that eventually grew to serve 170 families. During her years in San Diego, Geri and her husband Fred adopted nine of their 10 children.
At The Cafe Connection, Barnes says she offers a lot more to the community than great treats and various drinks. She offers a full line of cafe items with a highly skilled staff known as Baristas – meaning they know the ins and outs of each drink they make. The eatery also boasts a culinary and wine specialist.
The Cafe Connection sponsors open mic nights, various gatherings, wireless Internet access and poetry slams.
The Cafe Connection is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m., to 2 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Once the Connection gets its wine bar approved, it will expand the hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to 9 p.m. The store is also available for private parties.
