NORWICH – A new business in Norwich is designed to be both convenient and environmentally friendly – the Rainbow’s End Redemption Center in the Town of Norwich.

“We started the business because we felt like there weren’t many alternatives in the area. We liked the idea of having an environmentally friendly business,” said Roberta “Bert” Bartle, owner.

Bert runs the business with her partner, Tracy Bartle. Bert decided to open the business after being a volunteer EMT for 15 years in Oxford and a paid EMT for Superior for 11 years.

“I’m a little burned out after all those years, and I always wanted to run my own business. We did a lot of research into several different ideas, and we chose this one,” said Bert.

The Rainbow’s End Redemption Center accepts a wide range of materials from aluminum and tin to paper and plastic. The center will sort cans and bottles for its customers as long as they are clean, said Tracy. All containers must be cleaned out and have all traces of food or liquid removed. “Remember, all containers that are not cleaned out are not recyclable,” said Tracy. Once dropped off and counted, customers will be given the standard five cent deposit per item.
