NYC man killed in one-car crash

NORWICH – In the early hours this morning, emergency crews responded to the scene of a fatal one-car accident in the Town of Norwich.
The New York State Troopers, along with the Norwich and New Berlin Fire Departments, responded to the scene of a one -car rollover and discovered Anthony B. Walker, 40, from New York City, dead. The Chenango County Medical Examiner’s Office later arrived to officially declare Walker dead at the scene. The accident took place at 1:23 a.m. Tuesday near 5227 Route 23 in the Town of Norwich.
State Police pieced together the circumstances surrounding the accident and Walker apparently died when he was thrown from his 2005 Chrysler 300 as it rolled over repeatedly.
Troopers said Walker was not wearing his seat belt and that the body was found outside of the vehicle. The official cause of death was declared to be from severe head and chest trauma.
The vehicle left the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and then hit a mailbox before hitting another culvert. The second embankment caused the car to “roll several times and the victim was ejected from the vehicle,” said Norwich Station Commander Sergeant Elizabeth R. Wonka.
Walker was the sole occupant of the vehicle and police are still investigating the cause. Police also said they have no definite cause at this time but believe that the car left the road without much disturbance, indicating that either the driver was distracted or fell asleep.
