Saturday concert a UV senior's project

NEW BERLIN – Every year, seniors gearing up for graduation are required to pick topics to present as their final projects of their high school tenures.
This year, senior Megan Grainger is organizing an event that will teach her the basics of organizing a public event, fundraising and of the responsibilities outside the classroom walls.
Grainger is planning a benefit show for Chase Memorial Nursing Home’s Greenhouse Project Saturday from 6 p.m., to 11 p.m., at the Norwich Family YMCA, located at 68 N. Broad St. in Norwich.
Grainger explained she decided she wanted to put together this benefit because of her interest in music and business management/advertising.
The fundraiser will feature the grindcore-tech metal band, “Psyopus.” The band, originally from the Rochester area, was formed in 2002 and is known for their “unorthodox” and technical guitar skills of their guitarist, Christopher Arp.
The band is returning home from a tour throughout Europe where according to their publicist, which has received great reviews. The band’s new album, “Our puzzling Encounters Considered,” was released in February. Since then, the band has added Michael Horn as their new bassist. Other members of the band include Arp on guitar, Harrison Christy as vocals and Jason Bauers on drums.
Other performers that can be seen at Friday night’s event include “The Tora Tora Tourettes,” “Marowit,” “Betrayed By Fate” and “Emination.” There will be an admission price of $8.
Grainger explained that she took control over the show and contacted the various groups and arranged to have them perform. She spoke with the YMCA to provide the location and she worked with Chase to arrange the benefit. She has also worked in designing the posters and distributing them in the area.
Megan said she has learned various life skills, including communication and organization skills. She said she has had to work with a variety of individuals in coordinating the benefit.
“The experience has given me insight into possible career choices and how to effectively work with people,” she said. “I am really is really looking forward to an exciting evening and seeing it all come together.”
