Police arrest man for DWI after crashing car

NORWICH – Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single car accident in the Town of Norwich and arrested a man for being intoxicated Sunday.
Safet Covic, 34, of Ely Street in Binghamton, was placed under arrest by deputies after being treated by medical personnel for injuries sustained after wrecking his car along State Highway 12, near the Phetteplace Road intersection.
Police reconstructed the accident and reported that Covic was apparently traveling south and while negotiating a turn, he left the road way. The vehicle struck the stop sign at Phetteplace Road, then careened along a guide rail before flipping onto its roof and coming to a stop in a ditch.
Emergency crews responded and treated Covic at the scene for minor injuries. Police took Covic into custody for DWI, DWI .08 or more blood alcohol level and moving from the lane unsafely. He was later released to a third party and scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
