Man on the run; county moves to seize his $20,00 bail

NORWICH – A man charged with possessing child pornography who inadvertently turned himself into police has gone on the run.

The District Attorney’s Office made a motion Friday to collect the $20,000 in bail left behind by a man who missed his trial term. Police have been unable to locate Mark A. Cunningham, 45, Bainbridge, since Sept. 13. A warrant is out for his arrest on charges of disseminating indecent material to a minor in the first degree and possession of a sexual performance by a child; both are felony charges.

Cunningham was charged with possessing child pornography on his home computer. According to court reports, Cunningham allegedly got involved in an online chat room with an individual who threatened to blackmail him for $500. Cunningham contacted police and handed over his computer in response to the threat. He was arrested soon after because police said they discovered images of underage children on his hard drive.
