Sherburne Community Chorus performs Saturday night
NORWICH – The Sherburne Community Chorus will present a very special concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Martin W. Kappel Theater at the Chenango County Council of the Arts in Norwich.
The Chorus will present the very peaceful and gentle “Requiem” by Gabriel Faure; and a new work by Andrew Fowler commissioned for the 300th birthday of Charles Wesley, “Directions for Singing.” The title is taken from the seven aphorisms, all timeless gems of the spirit of hymn singing presented by John Wesley in the Methodist Hymnal.
The narrator’s part of John Wesley will be performed by former drama teacher, Rick Thormahlen, in full dress and wig. He adds a humorous as well as informational aspect of Wesley’s writings.
Soloists, Stephanie Gregory, soprano and Joe Damon Chappel will perform solo sections in both the “Requiem” and “Directions for Singing.” Gregory and Chappel are based in New York City and were soloists at the world premier of “Directions for Singing” at Lincoln Center and again for its second hearing in South Carolina.
An orchestra of 37 musicians will accompany the Chorus.
Tickets are on sale in advance at outlets in Norwich, Sherburne, and Earlville and will also be available at the door.
