Palace Theater showcases local talent this weekend
HAMILTON – The Earlville Opera House is pleased to be showcasing some of the best young talent in the region at its Youth Showcase of Singer-Songwriters at 8 p.m. Friday at the Palace Theater in Hamilton. The showcase is sponsored by Orbital Sound who will be donating the grand prize of a professional four-song recording demo package valued at over $500. Big Apple Music is also sponsoring the showcase with three gift certificates of $100, $75, and $50 values.

Merrill Amos is 18 years old and is from Cazenovia. She is a self-taught guitarist who has been playing for 5 years. She is currently a freshman at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva.
Ryder Bunting of Erieville is also 18 years old and he is a freshman at Onondaga Community College. Ryder will be on guitar and joined by Ryan Crouch also on guitar.
Zachary Collins of Hubbardsville is 21. Zach writes songs for his band Same Blood Folk who will be performing the songs with him in the showcase. Same Blood Folk includes Jenny Collins on bass and vocals and James White on percussion.
Michael Davis of Owego is a sophomore at SUNY Binghamton. He is performing his songs on piano with vocals and will be accompanied by Andy Payne on guitar and vocals.
Ellen Fagan of Earlville is 17 and is a senior at Sherburne-Earlville. Ellen is a solo performer who will accompany herself on guitar.
Emelia Failing of Utica is 16 and is a junior at Whitesboro High School. She is a solo performer with her guitar as backup to her vocals. Her songs are a mix of folk, country with a flare of pop. She describes her songwriting: “Writing and performing for me has not only been a channel to release my true feelings, but an awesome way to express my passion and love for music.”
Peter Leone, Hamilton (in The Source) The Source is Peter Leone (Guitar & Vocals), Alex Thompson (Guitar, Harmonica, Vocals), Nate Jacobs (Drums & auxiliary percussion), and Chris Venditti (Bass). The Source has been together for about a year, and its members are all students at Hamilton Central School. Peter, Alex, and Nate are all juniors and Chris is a freshman. Their sound is influenced by classic rock, funk, and folk. The band would like to thank all their friends and family for support.
Joe Mettler of Sherburne is a senior at Sherburne- Earlville. Joe is a solo performer who will accompany himself on guitar.
The Sonic Symposium of Hamilton writes their music collaboratively between 4 members of their 7-piece band. The songwriting team is ages 19-22 years of age with musical composition by: Ben Sanofsky, Zach McCollum and Alex Ogungi and lyrics by Adam Coccari. The Sonic Symposium fuses the sounds of jazz, funk and hip-hop into an innovative jam-song-based form. The band is Adam Coccari, lead vocalist, who mixes lyrical poetry with progressive rhythms; Alex Ogunji, a jazz-rooted saxophone player specializing in spontaneity and improvisation; Ed Kalish, lead guitarist and classic rock enthusiast; Ben Sanofsky, classically grounded pianist with a jazz forte; Zachary McCollum, mixes the strange with the familiar on rhythm and solo guitar and the occasional electronic toy; Chris Jospe, jam-rock drummer and auxiliary percussionist; Eli Raffeld, jazz drummer with a mohawk edge; and Will Warren, who provides the hard-hitting bass backbone. The band members go to Colgate University.
Judging the showcase will be a challenge, but three adjudicators have been chosen for the event. Their scores will be 75% of the performance score. The final 25% will be crowd enthusiasm, which will be measured by a decibel meter. The decibel measurements will be taken at the end of the evening after all performances are finished. The judging will also be tallied at the end of the show.
There will be an admission charge for the event of $4. Performers will have free admission.
