'Extreme Makeover' episode has Sherburne connection

SHERBURNE – Anyone familiar with ABC’s Sunday lineup knows that the cast of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” can create an extraordinary house in an insanely short amount of time, but that task is about to become a little easier with the help of BuildBlock Insulating Concrete Forms, like those distributed in Sherburne.

At 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, ABC will broadcast a new episode of “Extreme Makeover,” during which the cast will build a 2,732 square foot home in only 106 hours. This achievement was made possible due to the fact they used BuildBlock ICF construction as opposed to stick built construction.

Sherburne’s West Lake Village used the same exact type of forms to construct the Eldershire living community, and co-owner of the community Donald Westcott is a BuildBlock distributor.

According to Dianne Antaya, community manager at West Lake Village, “The BuildBlock forms look like two inches of styrofoam on each side with reinforced steel segments in the middle.” Once placed, the forms are filled with four inches of concrete.

The “Extreme Makeover” crew used the forms to build a “green,” energy efficient home for the Vitale family. This marks the first time ICF construction has been used on the show.
