EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report provides updates on major construction projects in Chenango County.
Community Workshop ARC:
• A six-bedoom residential home for clients of the privately-held Community Workshop ARC of Norwich is under construction on East River Road in the Town of Norwich.
• The 2,400 square foot facility is in the initial stages of construction. Exterior siding was erected last week and workers are currently installing electrical infrastructure. Plumbing is on the docket next to be followed by insulation and sheet rocking after the first of the year.
• Randy Hay Construction Inc. of Chenango Forks is the contractor.
• Executive Director John McHale said paperwork began a year ago for the $300,000 facility, funded in part by the New York State Office for Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.
• In addition to clients who will be living there, the new structure will create 10 to 12 jobs, according to CWS Rehabilitation Services Vice President Michael Cerra.
Plaza Lanes Bowling:
• Interior and exterior refurbishing projects have been ongoing since August at Plaza Lanes Bowling in Norwich, according to General manager Mark Ewen.
• Workers completed interior painting and a new parking lot and began stucco and painting on the building’s upper facade Oct. 1. The bowling alley is located in the Save-A-Lot strip mall on state Rt. 12 South.
• The lower brick part of the facade is in the final stages of completion. The project is expected to be finished the second week of December.
Tribute Martial Arts:
• The former Lewis Martial Arts center, a City of Norwich business since 1991, has changed its name and moved into a larger facility.
• Owner/teacher Ron Lewis said he opened for classes on Oct. 15 after making interior renovations to a former country music dance club Touch of Texas located on 58 Hale St. Two workout spaces were created, along with changing rooms.
• Exterior painting is scheduled to be completed in the spring.
