Norwich 67, Maine-Endwell 64
ENDWELL – Norwich avoided a three-game losing streak shaking off a poor second quarter and overcoming a seven-point halftime deficit Saturday afternoon.
Josh Borfitz came off the bench to score a varsity-high 17 points. Vaughn Labor added 10, and Patrick Coates scored all eight of his points in the third quarter. “It was by far our best shooting game,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “It was a good win after playing hard the previous two games, but we were kind of useless on the offensive end in those games.”
A key switch on the defensive end changed the Tornado’s fortunes as well. Abbott moved from a man-to-man to a morphing zone that had the appearance of a man-to-man defense. “We had good pressure on the ball, switched on everything, and it took them out of their offensive rhythm,” Abbott said. “They had trouble figuring out if it was man-to-man or zone.”
Norwich (2-2) is at Johnson City Tuesday.
