Dunkin' Donuts says they're almost ready to break ground
NORWICH – Weather permitting, the long-awaited construction of a Dunkin Donuts restaurant on State Rt. 12 just south of the city’s limits will be underway within the next 60 days, the franchiser says.
Maine-based EWS Realty LLC President Ed Wolak said he expected the popular breakfast eatery to be open in the spring. All permits have been approved by the Town of Norwich Planning Board and the project is currently out to bid, he said.
The realty company has a branch office in Syracuse and owns Dunkin Donuts franchises in Onondaga, Madison and Cortland counties.
The deed transfer of 1.09 acres was finalized Dec. 4 and sold for $130,000. Former owner Thomas Morrone of Norwich, who purchased the property in 2006 from the Norwich Cemetery Association, said he had planned to build the restaurant himself until learning that the rights to this particular region for Dunkin Donuts were already owned by EWS Realty.
Morrone also said his purchase transaction took longer than normal due to state cemetery regulations.
Wolak said development of the property was delayed pending “some soil issues” at the site that required additional engineering.
