Tyrrell completes competitive one year business school
NORWICH – A local entrepreneur has just successfully completed a special intensive one-year course from a national school based near the capital.
Managing owner of the “Automotive Giant,” Smith Ford LLC, 175 East Main St., Norwich, Will Tyrrell successfully completed a one-year course from the National Auto Dealer Association.
“It would have taken five or ten years of active experience to learn what we did in a single year,” said Tyrrell.
The program includes six weeks of classes and 40 to 70 hour projects regularly scheduled about every two months.
“It was extremely challenging; a lot of work. It teaches you how to run a business, any business,” said Tyrrell.
The course shows how to problem solve, handle money and deal with issues that may arise for business owners. It takes participants through all levels involved in the process including material handling, parts, service, sales and financing.
Tyrrell graduated with a class of 45 other entrepreneurs, Dec. 10 in McLean Va. The attendants are drawn from across the United States and Canada. The National Association processes on average three classes every two years, meaning less than about a hundred people a year are allowed into the program.
Smith Ford currently employs 43 workers and has expanded its work force by 24 jobs in the last four years. It has also expanded into two separate facilities.
