Wrestling

S-E fourth at Dolgeville
DOLGEVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville’s wrestling team won seven of 10 dual matches over the two-day Dolgeville Dual Meet Tournament last weekend to finish fourth overall out of 10 teams.
Scoring included all 15 weight classes, and S-E junior Chris Pike, a defending small school sectional champion in Section III, finished a perfect 10-0 at 285 pounds. Greg DuVall (112), Wheeler Brunschmid (171), and Braden Thornton (215) won nine of 10 matches, and Daniel Hicks (125) went 8-2.
“We were very happy with all of the mat time,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks. “Sometimes it takes a month to get 10 dual meets in. We faced a nice mix of clubs, and our middleweights wrestled better and better with the extra time on the mat.”
The Marauders host the S-E Classic Wrestling Tournament Saturday. Finals are scheduled around 5 p.m.

Boys’ Swimming

Greene 100, Norwich 68
NORWICH – Although the Norwich and Greene nearly split the first-place finishes down the middle, it was the Trojans’ superior depth that led them to a second non-league victory over the Purple Tornado this season.
Chris Osterwald won two individual events for unbeaten Greene taking the diving competition and 100-yard freestyle. “Their depth get them a lot of points and they have strong swimmers through their lineup,” said Norwich coach Jon Aikins. “Our kids are performing where I want them to at this point of the season, and our ultimate goal is to be peaking for sectionals.”
Talon Schroeder, Dan Wenzel, and Trey Ostrom had multiple wins for Norwich, who swim at Chenango Valley Friday.
