EDITOR’S NOTE: The Bricks & Mortar Report provides updates on major construction projects in Chenango County.


Chenango County Highway Department:

• Highway work crews took advantage of the warmer weather last week to cut trees in the right-of-way along county roads in Pharsalia and Bainbridge. Public Works Director Randy Gibbon said additional tree service experts were hired on to take down trees that were a threat to houses or power lines.

• Workers also hauled stone from the county highway department on Rexford Street in the City of Norwich to different towns where it will be needed next spring and summer for road resurfacing projects.


Chenango County Waste Management Department:

• The newly built 3-acre deep cell at the Chenango County landfill in the Town of Pharsalia was completed last September and came in under budget, officials say. It should be in use by mid-year.

• The project was expected to cost about $2.5 million, including engineering fees. County surplus and set aside DPW funds were applied.

• The new cell should handle the county’s waste disposal needs for another 7 years.
