Sherburne-Earlville 45, Waterville 25
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville completed its first season sweep of Waterville since joining the Midstate Athletic Conference, while also rebounding from a lopsided loss earlier in the week.
“The defensive effort was outstanding, and it’s the best defense I have seen at Sherburne-Earlville,” lauded S-E coach Jeff Parry. “We had our hands on the ball, we played the passing lanes, switched on screens, and the kids boxed out. We limited them to one shot all night.”
Courtney Kurtz completed a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Megan Welshko added 11 boards, and Danielle Green had eight points and eight rebounds.
The Marauders came out strong in the third quarter adding to a double-digit lead. Kurtz scored six in the quarter and Brenda Hoefler had two baskets. “I’m proud of how the kids bounced back after a tough loss,” Barry said. “I give them all the credit in the world.”

Wrestling

B-G/Afton 53, S-E 15
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton’s Danny Gormley won a battle of sectional champions to highlight the Bears’ dual meet win over the Marauders Thursday in a non-league matchup.
Gormley, a division two sectional champion last year, won a 6-0 decision over S-E’s Greg DuVall, a division one titlist last season. “That is by far the best match Danny has wrestled this year,” said B-GA coach Brandon MacNaught. “He was solid in all the positions, but I have to give Greg credit. He was in deep on a couple of shots, but we scrambled well out of them.”
The Marauders finished with just three victories, one of those a pin by Dan Cleveland at 140 pounds. “They have some tough wrestlers, but we wrestled pretty well tonight as a group,” MacNaught said.
The Bears compete in the Section IV dual meet tournament next weekend.
