Hot Delta Bluesman, Garry Cogdell, at 6 On The Square
OXFORD – 6 On The Square is proud to present Garry Cogdell, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Garry Cogdell is Blues, and he’ll be heating up this Oxford venue when he plays – Mississippi, Chicago, Texas & Memphis Blues, and a wee bit of Rock’n’Roll! From the picking to whining guitar, to down-and-out rhythms, if you want the blues, Garry’s got them.
Garry Cogdell has been playing the Blues for over 35 years. His singing and guitar work draw deeply from the music of the Mississippi Delta, Chicago, Texas, and sometimes even London, England in the 1960s. He can play a masterful slide-guitar with his fluid flat and finger picks in the “hammer-stroke” style in several guitar tunes. His playing confirms the depth of his knowledge and understanding of the subtleties and strengths of the best of the Blues guitarists.
In his early years he was a student of the great “Philadelphia Jerry Ricks.” Commenting on Garry’s playing, Philadelphia Jerry said, “He’s so good it’s scary.”
