NORWICH – Norwich did not score a field goal until the second period, and shot just over 20 percent from the field in its lowest scoring outing of the season.
“They extended their zone quite a bit, and they make it uncomfortable for you on offense,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter. “Some of our shots were rushed, so therefore, the release isn’t good.”
Madie Harlem had 10 points for the Yellowjackets, and Lesley Harlem added nine. Norwich’s defense paid particular attention to Madie Harlem and Meredith Ridgway. The duo combined for just 14 points. “Emily Tackabury guarded Harlem and Brooke Abbott had Ridgway most of the game,” Porter said. “Those two did a good job holding them down defensively.”

OXFORD – After Oxford closed six-point Afton lead in the fourth to one point, Crimson Knights guard Jessica Winans had two steals that she converted into layups finishing with 24 points in her club’s road win Saturday.
“At halftime, I told (my team) that we’ve played 10 quarters against Oxford, and there are probably just four points separating the two teams,” said Afton coach John Simonds. “I said whoever does the little things in the second half will win.”
Hollyann Branham and Felicia Tynan had a pair of baskets in the fourth quarter to draw Oxford closer, but it was two three balls from Alyshia Crawford in the third quarter that allowed Oxford to stay in striking range. “Those two threes were huge,” Simonds said. “Without those, the game might have been over.”
Erin Law had 11 points for Oxford and Tynan netted 10. “We had a couple bad turnovers at the end,” said Oxford coach Brad Aldrich. “When it came down to the end, they did a better job taking care of the ball.”

DELHI – Unadilla Valley received a career-high 14 points from Cierra Izard, and returned to the .500 mark (7-7) for the first time since the Christmas break.
Izard took advantage of Delhi’s box-and-one defenses geared to slow down Katrina Benson and later Hannah Johnson. She had 10 points in the second as the Storm expanded their six-point halftime lead. “That was by far the best game (Cierra) has played,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “They left her open, and she made her shots.”

Amber Wood was 4-for-4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter, and Erica Loomis hit two late free throws to seal the win. “It seemed like everything they threw up went in the basket in the second half,” said OV coach Kevin Springer. “We’re glad we don’t have to play them again. They have come closer to beating us each time.”

EDMESTON – G-MU won its rubber match with Edmeston rallying from an 11-point deficit to start the fourth quarter.
Cass Calamia had 10 of her 14 points in the last quarter, and she scored six points in an 8-0 G-MU salvo midway through the fourth quarter that put the Raiders (4-5, 7-9) in front. Calamia and Ashlea Osborne hit two free throws apiece in the final minute to seal the victory.
“This bunch is a lot of fun, and it was a fun game to watch,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “This wasn’t a big game from a standings perspective, but for these girls to come back like they did, you ask, ‘where’d that come from?’”
Osborne hit two three-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points.
Samantha Martin canned four three balls on the Edmeston side to lead her club with 12 points.

GREENE – Greene won its 36th straight Midstate Athletic Conference meet, and 19th straight from last season in a victory over the Makos Friday night.
Greene gained victories in all but one event as George Flanagan and Logan Mowatt had a pair of individual victories. “I told them tonight to swim with a chip on their shoulder tonight since we only have seven days until the MAC Championships,” said Trojans coach Mike Platta. “Our goals were to win the league and sectionals, and we’re right on track.”
The Trojans (6-0, 10-0) swept the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and diving.

Daniel Wenzel had the Tornado’s first win taking the 200 individual medley in 2:13.97. Talon Schroeder was a victor in the 100 butterfly, Ryan Cambron added a first in the 100 backstroke, and Wenzel added his second victory on the night in the 500 freestyle.
The Tornado recognize their seniors in Tuesday’s home meet against Chenango Forks.

EDMESTON – G-MU won its rubber match with Edmeston rallying from an 11-point deficit to start the fourth quarter.
Cass Calamia had 10 of her 14 points in the last quarter, and she scored six points in an 8-0 G-MU salvo midway through the fourth quarter that put the Raiders (4-5, 7-9) in front. Calamia and Ashlea Osborne hit two free throws apiece in the final minute to seal the victory.
“This bunch is a lot of fun, and it was a fun game to watch,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “This wasn’t a big game from a standings perspective, but for these girls to come back like they did, you ask, ‘where’d that come from?’”
Osborne hit two three-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points.
Samantha Martin canned four three balls on the Edmeston side to lead her club with 12 points.

GREENE – Greene won its 36th straight Midstate Athletic Conference meet, and 19th straight from last season in a victory over the Makos Friday night.
Greene gained victories in all but one event as George Flanagan and Logan Mowatt had a pair of individual victories. “I told them tonight to swim with a chip on their shoulder tonight since we only have seven days until the MAC Championships,” said Trojans coach Mike Platta. “Our goals were to win the league and sectionals, and we’re right on track.”
The Trojans (6-0, 10-0) swept the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and diving.

NORWICH – Norwich won just four events in its next-to-last home meet of the season losing to Johnson City Friday night.
Daniel Wenzel had the Tornado’s first win taking the 200 individual medley in 2:13.97. Talon Schroeder was a victor in the 100 butterfly, Ryan Cambron added a first in the 100 backstroke, and Wenzel added his second victory on the night in the 500 freestyle.
The Tornado recognize their seniors in Tuesday’s home meet against Chenango Forks.
