Oxford Lions Perch Derby postponed to Feb. 16
NORWICH – A milder than usual January has the ice at only 6 inches thick, so the annual fundraiser for the Oxford Lions Club will be postponed until Feb 16 which was originally scheduled for Feb. 2.
The derby will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a $1,000 NBT Bank cash prize for the first registered fisherman catching a 2008 tagged perch. Blueox Corp is offering a $500 prize for the second tagged perch. In addition, if the first tagged perch is caught by an angler who has pre -registered, he or she will receive an extra $200. The angler hooking the largest Perch of the Day will receive a $150, from Richard Polgar, DMD PC of Oneonta.
Registration will be $5 on the ice, the day of the event. Pre -register by Feb. 9. for only $4 and you will be eligible for the extra $200. Forms are available at Mayhood’sMayhoods Sporting Goods in Norwich, Hoppies in Oxford and on the Oxford Lions web site, www.oxfordlions.org.
A large raffle held in conjunction with the derby is currently in progress, and the winning ticket will be drawn on derby day. First place isbeing a 10 person Paintball Party $180 valueIce provided by the Mayhood Sporting Goods. Two $100 Cash prizes& provided by NBT Bank and Sidney Federal Credit Union Third. An Office chair from Hayes Office Products and finally a $100 Gas Card from Blueox Corp. Tickets are on sale now from any Oxford Lions Club member and will also be on sale on the ice during the derby. The Oxford Lions Club will be providing hot food and drinks on the ice during the event.
In the event that no one catches a perch with a 2008 tag on derby day or if the weather doesn’t cooperate and the derby is canceled, the prizes will be raffled off again to those persons pre registered for the derby at noon on Feb 16.
