Oxford man accused of rape appears in court
OXFORD – An Oxford man accused of raping and molesting two underage children appeared in Chenango County Court Friday with a newly-appointed attorney.
Jason E. Heisler, 34, of 223 West State Road, Oxford, was indicted Nov. 29 for first degree rape (B felony), first degree sexual abuse (D felony), second degree sexual act and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Heisler has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. In his last court appearance, Heisler asked that he be appointed a new attorney after being unsatisfied with his original representative.
The public defender’s office recused itself from representing Heisler because of a conflict from a prior case and so the court assigned a private attorney.
The court assigned defense attorney Linden D. Summers to the case and Heisler told the judge he was pleased with the current arrangement. The defense made no bail request, but told the court that it may make one at a later date.
Heisler was arrested Oct. 23 for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl and sexually molesting a 13-year-old boy at his Oxford residence between 2003 and 2006.
Heisler’s wife, Christina, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and pleaded guilty in Town of Oxford Court. She served six days in jail and gave voluntary statements that aided investigators in indicting her husband.
Police said Heisler was charged with the crime because she had discovered the molestations but failed to report them to the authorities in an apparent attempt to handle them privately.
Jason Heisler is in the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
