BAINBRIDGE – B-G, MAC division two champions for the third time in a row, raced to a 17-point lead in the first quarter to cruise at Deposit Tuesday.
Mariah Schaeffer scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the opening quarter, and Dani Conway had her second triple-double this season – both against Deposit – finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and six steals. “We got out and ran a little bit in the first quarter, and we had some easy looks at the basket,” said B-G coach Bob Conway.
The win was the 16th straight for the Bobcats (16-1), a statistic believed a school record, Conway said.

Greene 53, Walton 26
GREENE – Greene won its first division title in the Midstate Athletic Conference, and first since the 1994-1995 season, Tuesday against Walton.
Blitzing the Warriors early, Megan McDermott scored 10 in the first, and Barb Borst drained two three balls helping the Trojans to a 26-2 lead.
“We were just hitting everything, moving the ball around, and playing good defense,” said Greene coach Bill Case. “Every player had at least one steal tonight, and it was a really good, typical team effort on offense and defense.”
Liz Wentlent paced Greene with 15 points, five assists, and four steals. McDermott totaled 14 points, and Lizzy Buhl grabbed 11 rebounds.

Owego 39, Norwich 37 (OT)
NORWICH – Extra minutes have proven extra unkind to the Tornado this season.
Norwich’s second-half comeback went for naught as the Indians defeated Norwich in overtime, the third OT defeat for the Purple Tornado this season.
Alicia Marhefka scored off an inbounds play with eight seconds left in regulation to force overtime. In the bonus four-minute period, Owego missed the front end of three one-and-one foul shots, but cashed in on Marhefka’s inside prowess as she tallied a layup with 1:19 to play.
Owego went on a 11-2 run early in the third period getting back-to-back three-pointers from Alana Cerrantani to make it 28-18 with 1:55 left in the third.
Norwich battled back over the final two minutes hitting 4-for-4 from the foul line, while Adrienne Sharpe bucketed a layup.
Six straight points from Norwich’s Chelsea Leibundgut early in the fourth quarter put Norwich in front 32-31. After an exchange of the lead, Emily Tackabury hit 3-for-6 from the foul line in the last two minutes putting NHS in front 37-35.
Leibundgut had her second straight double figures game (she had 12 against Johnson City on Monday) leading Norwich with 11 points. Tackabury and Boyan Cox added eight points apiece.
Norwich’s junior varsity team, coming off a STAC Central Division clinching win the night before at Johnson City, improved to 16-1 with a 51-40 victory. Elisha Eddy scored 13 points and Hannah Runyon had 10 in the victory. The Tornado JV will play in the STAC JV tournament next week at the Broome County Arena.

OXFORD – Every Oxford player found the scoring column, the third time it has happened this season, in a runaway victory over Hancock Tuesday.
Haley Witchella had 12 points and 15 rebounds, Erin Law scored 14 points, and Felicia Tynan added 10 points and six assists for the Blackhawks (10-8). “When we’ve played the teams that are a little down this year, we’ve come out and played solid,” said Oxford coach Brad Aldrich. “And our second unit has done a nice job.”

NEW BERLIN – UV came no closer than four points in the fourth quarter in a loss to the Spartans Tuesday.
Blake Shelton hurt UV on the offensive glass early scoring 10 points in the second quarter to turn a six-point UV lead into a seven-point halftime advantage. “When we played them last time, they shot the ball well,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “I didn’t think they would shoot that well again, but they shot lights out – especially in the second quarter.”
Hannah Johnson led the Storm with 16 points, and Katrina Benson posted a double-double netting 14 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown clinched a division title in the Center State Conference, and also snapped Sherburne-Earlville’s six-game winning streak Tuesday.
Four Redskins finished in double figures scoring led by Luke Tirrell’s 13 points. “We just turned it over way too much against their pressure,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “It was their senior night and they were playing with a lot of emotion. We just didn’t step up to the challenge.”
S-E (9-9) had 14 points from Garrett Porack. The Marauders host Mount Markham tonight.

SOUTH OTSELIC – On senior recognition night, the Vikings polished off a 19-1 regular season – and surely a high seed in the Section III tournament – rolling to a win Tuesday evening.
Needing a win to clinch an outright Central Counties League title, OV broke out to a 38-17 halftime lead and never looked back. “It took a while for us to get started, but our transition game was a little better than it has been,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We did a fairly good job on defense, and we hope that continues in the sectional playoffs.”
David Cerasani scored a game-high 21 points for OV, Taylor Duell recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Justin Shapley added 10 boards.

OWEGO – Norwich received two forfeits, and also nabbed a pair of decision wins from Zach Ketchum (125) and Rick Reihl (130) in a dual meet defeat at Owego Tuesday.
Ketchum and Reihl both won close three-point decisions. “Those two had good wins for us, and I was hoping for a couple more from guys we’ve seen,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. “We knew (Owego) was pretty tough, and our young guys didn’t match up with their seniors.”
Norwich hosts Oxford Feb. 13.

The Purple Tornado won nine of 12 events getting multiple individual event wins from Ryan Cambron (100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle), Dan Wenzel (50 free, 100 backstroke), and Talon Schroeder (200 individual medley, 500 freestyle). “Our swimmers are showing a glimpse of what is to come at sectionals,” said Norwich coach Jon Aikins.
Seniors Nick Follett and Larry Waters were recognized before the meet.
