Wednesday’s rain causes creeks, river to rise
CHENANGO COUNTY – A combination of warm temperatures and rain caused the Chenango River and area streams to rise close to their banks on Wednesday, but there was little spill over.
City of Norwich Emergency Management Officer A. Wesley Jones said flood stage levels were reached in both Sherburne and Bainbridge. In Sherburne, the Chenango River crested just after reaching 8 feet. The river hit 8.1 feet before beginning to recede. In Bainbridge, the flood stage is 13 feet. There, the river crested at 15 feet.
“At 15 feet, there is really nothing major in the way of flooding,” Jones said. “We’re in pretty good shape.”
The warm temperatures and rain have left the area, and colder weather is expected over the next few days.
