Greene man indicted for attempted murder
PITCHER – A Greene man has been indicted for attempted murder after he allegedly injured a woman and tried to kill a man by running him over with his pick-up truck, seriously injuring him as well.
Shawn A. Vanderbunt, 44, of Greene, has been charged with several violent felonies, including second degree attempted murder.
The New York State Troopers said they responded to a call in January along Cook Road in the Town of Pitcher and discovered the 21-year-old victim, Jamie M. Brown. He was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital and was found to have broken pelvis along with several other minor injuries.
Another victim in the crime was Sabrina Chordas, who allegedly took refuge from Vanderbunt in her own vehicle, a Plymouth Voyager van. Prosecutors say Vanderbunt “intentionally struck the van” with his pick-up while Chordas was inside, causing over a $1,000 in damages.
Investigators alleged that Vanderbunt intentionally hit Brown with his 2004 Ranger pick-up truck because he was still angry over a dispute the two men had earlier.
Vanderbunt was arraigned in North Norwich Town Court and remanded to the County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail but posted the full amount Jan. 5. and was released. He appeared in County Court Jan. 22 and had the bail reduced to $5,000, according to the court clerk’s office.
Along with second degree attempted murder charge, Vanderbunt was officially indicted for two counts of first degree assault, three counts of third degree assault, two counts of first degree reckless endangerment, second degree recklessendangerment, leaving the scene of an incident and third degree criminal mischief by the Chenango County grand jury this week.
He will all appear in court Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. before Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dowd to answer to the charges.
