BINGHAMTON – Norwich’s perfect run and quest for an unbeaten season and STAC junior varsity championship was stopped one game short.

Two three-point attempts in the waning seconds to tie the contest and force overtime were off the mark, and Vestal held on for a 49-46 win, Friday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Norwich (19-1) led only briefly in the first half, and was as close as one point with 17 seconds remaining. Colin Gemer drained two free throws for the Golden Bears setting up the final margin. “Every time we cut (the lead) close, they bounced back,” said Norwich head JV coach Phil Curley. “I don’t think they ever led by more than five points in the second half, and it was tight the whole way.”
