EARLVILLE – Mayor Toni Campbell said there is “a strong likelihood” that the village could recieve a $400,000 state grant for improvements to village homes next year.

Village officials are in the application process for a Community Development Block Grant Program administered through New York State Office for Small Cities. The program provides federal funds to eligible cities, towns or villages to aid low to moderate income individuals and targets cities, towns or villages with populations of 50,000 or less.

According to the Office for Small Cities’ website, it to “develop viable communities by providing decent, affordable housing and suitable living environments.

Village Clerk Christian Vischi said homes on North Main Street and Preston Street have been targeted for rehabilitation. The grant would allow for repairs to foundations or new septic systems, heating units, siding or windows. The grant could not be used for cosmetic reason.
