VHCA and Cortland split championships

On Friday evening, the culmination of the ESCAL regular season tournament saw Valley Heights Christian Academy of Norwich and Cortland Christian Academy both playing in the final game.

In the girls’ game, VHCA took care of business defeating the CCA girls, 40-21. With that win, the girls team from Valley Heights won their eighth consecutive ESCAL tournament championship.

The boys’ team wound up on the wrong side of victory as they fell to CCA, 51-44.

Hannah Vidler led all scorers with 18 points as Sarah Miedema backed up Vidler with 12 of her own in the Crusaders’ win.

Leading 24-8 at halftime, the VHCA ladies put it into overdrive as they coasted to another championship. "I thought that we played inspired." coach Lee Hodge said. "It's tough to beat a team three times in one season, but our girls really stepped thier defense up and played well."
