GREENE – Greene gets a much-anticipated rematch in the Class B playoffs with Chenango Valley this Saturday after blowing out Whitney Point in its first-round playoff game Wednesday night.
Barb Borst had nine points in the first quarter and led the Trojans with 15. Utilizing a full-court press, Greene (19-2) jumped out to a 34-12 halftime advantage. “They were running the clock down on every offensive possession,” said Greene coach Bill Case. “We went to the press to speed the game out, and it worked out pretty well.”
Borst not only led Greene in scoring, she was assigned Whitney Point’s top scorer Amanda Materski on defense. Borst held Materski scoreless through three periods when reserves made their entry.
Lizzy Buhl added 10 points in the win, while Liz Wentlent picked up eight points, five assists, and three steals.

Afton 66, Edmeston 40
AFTON – High-scoring Afton moved into the Section IV, Class D quarterfinals getting a career-high 20 points and 15 rebounds from Heather Simonds Wednesday night.
Simonds did most of her scoring in the first half putting in 14 points to give her club a 39-28. “We scored almost 40 points in the first half and we were only up 11,” said Afton coach John Simonds. “The press was more effective in the second half and we played a lot better.”
The Crimson Knights held Edmeston to just 12 second-half points to pull away. Jessica Winans and Hannah Westfall finished with 14 points apiece in the victory.
The Crimson Knights play at Downsville Saturday afternoon.

ODESSA – Odessa-Montour avoided a first-round upset to Oxford in Class C sectional play rallying from 14 points down in the third quarter to advance in the playoffs Wednesday night.
Rebecca Ayers spearheaded the Indians’ comeback scoring 15 of her 27 points in the second half. “We played pretty well up until about the last two minutes of the third quarter,” said Oxford coach Brad Aldrich. “It was kind of like the B-G game. (Odessa-Montour) turned it around, and we had no answer for it.”
Haley Witchella led three Oxford players in double figures scoring netting 15 points. Christi Baker added 14 and Chantel Crandall 11. Oxford finishes the season 11-10.
