Family remembers victim of fatal shooting
SHERBURNE – A guy who always wore a smile and had a love for life are two ways family members say shooting victim Kallin Richards, 24, of New Berlin, will be remembered.
Just two days after the shooting death of Mr. Richards, a member of his family said they are “mourning the passing of someone who was taken away too soon.”
Mr. Richards, who was found dead at 2:40 a.m. at Sherburne Meadows apartments Saturday, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the heart and liver. He was said by family members to have been “close friends” with his alleged assailant, Joshua T. Story, who has been charged with second degree murder. The source went as far as to say Story and Richards were “best friends.”
Survived by his parents, his fiancee, his son, siblings and numerous other family members along with many close friends, the Richards family says they are still awaiting information about the exact motive and other test results to be available.
Family members say they never saw Mr. Richards without a smile on his face. “He had the biggest blue eyes and the greatest smile,” a family member said. “His son looks just like him.” Family members say Kallin loved spending time with his family, he had a passion for fast cars and generally just loved living life.
“This is going to be so hard on that baby. He was a daddy’s boy,” said one of Mr. Richard’s family members, referring to the relationship he shared with his young son.
Family members also said although Mr. Richards had seen his share of trouble with the law throughout the past decade, that does not reflect the man he was. “No matter what he has done in the past, that does not justify what happened to him,” said a family member. “He didn’t deserve this.”
The same family member also said Mr. Richards was trying to get his life on track, had a family and a life to live. “This should never have happened. This guy was his friend, and Kallin wasn’t doing anything wrong,” they said.
Mr. Richards attended school in Norwich, and according to family and friends, he spent years swimming and doing other activities and will be remembered by many. He was a member of the online networking site MySpace, where since Sunday, a collection of comments have begun to fill his profile page – ranging from the simple “rest easy” to more elaborate comments made by friends: “We love you bud, your smile and energy for life will carry on forever in out hearts and minds.”
A complete obituary for Mr. Richards appears on page 6 of today’s Evening Sun.
