Tioga 45, B-G 39
WHITNEY – Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Bob Conway roughly estimated his club shot about 25 percent for the game. If you added up just the second half numbers, that percentage was much worse.
Tioga advanced to the Section IV Class D finals holding the Bobcats (18-3) to just 13 second-half points. “We couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean, and the bottom line is we shot the ball terrible,” said B-G’s Conway. “We also took some shots in spots where they shouldn’t have been taken.”
A productive first quarter had the Bobcats in front 16-11. Dani Conway put 10 points on the board, while second leading scorer Mariah Schaeffer scored all four of her points. Conway went on to score a game-high 23 points, but that was not enough to offset the balanced Tioga lineup.
“Tioga is a good team and they outplayed us tonight,” Conway said. “They deserved to win the game, and we didn’t come with the intensity we needed.”
Down to B-G the entire first half, Tioga took the lead for good with an 8-2 run to end the third quarter. Kara McDuffee scored on a fast break after a B-G turnover, Stephanie Daniels scored after an offensive rebound, and Kacie Hoyt knocked down a 10-foot baseliner after another offensive rebound. The majority of the Tigers’ second-half baskets came via the offensive rebound or a fast break following a B-G turnover. McDuffee led her club with 13 points and Daniels added 10.
“We haven’t been hurt by offensive rebounds that much this year, but we know we are undersized at one forward spot, and we didn’t get enough help on the defensive boards from our guards,” Conway added.

Seton Catholic Central 64, Greene 40
JOHNSON CITY – The STAC champion got the better of the MAC champion in the Section IV, Class B semifinals Wednesday evening.
Seton Catholic Central advanced to the finals building a 14-point lead at halftime, and pulling away late with nine fourth-quarter points from K.C. Hawkes. Hawkes led the Saints with 20 points.
"They played great and their defense was tough," said Greene coach Bill Case of Seton, whose club finished with a 20-win season and its first league championship in 13 years. "We didn't keep our poise well, and we had a lot of unforced turnovers. They were also the first team to fast break us, and they shot lights out."
Katherine Torto finished on the fast break totaling 15 points for Seton, and Kelsey Myette also had 14 points. All but two of the Saints' points came from their five starters. On the defensive end, 6-foot-3 center Ellie Garbade was an intimidating force unlike any person the Trojans have seen. "She (Garbade) totally dominated the game, and I felt Torto was dominant from the guard position," Case said. "We made a good run at the end of the first half, and I thought if we could chip away in the third quarter and get it into single digits, we had a chance. We came out in the third quarter and probably turned it over on five of our first six possessions."
Greene's starting guards, Barb Borst and Erin Smith, had big days in defeat finishing with 18 and 10 points respectively. The Trojans finish the season 20-3.
