Tioga 45, B-G 39
WHITNEY – Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Bob Conway roughly estimated his club shot about 25 percent for the game. If you added up just the second half numbers, that percentage was much worse.
Tioga advanced to the Section IV Class D finals holding the Bobcats (18-3) to just 13 second-half points. “We couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean, and the bottom line is we shot the ball terrible,” said B-G’s Conway. “We also took some shots in spots where they shouldn’t have been taken.”
A productive first quarter had the Bobcats in front 16-11. Dani Conway put 10 points on the board, while second leading scorer Mariah Schaeffer scored all four of her points. Conway went on to score a game-high 23 points, but that was not enough to offset the balanced Tioga lineup.
“Tioga is a good team and they outplayed us tonight,” Conway said. “They deserved to win the game, and we didn’t come with the intensity we needed.”
Down to B-G the entire first half, Tioga took the lead for good with an 8-2 run to end the third quarter. Kara McDuffee scored on a fast break after a B-G turnover, Stephanie Daniels scored after an offensive rebound, and Kacie Hoyt knocked down a 10-foot baseliner after another offensive rebound. The majority of the Tigers’ second-half baskets came via the offensive rebound or a fast break following a B-G turnover. McDuffee led her club with 13 points and Daniels added 10.
